But downhill skiing is only part of what’s on offer. There are many other ways of enjoying a winter holiday while having just as much fun. Cross country skiing is worth a try. So too is “le skating”, which is similar, but more energetic. There are special Nordic pistes around all the resorts, and at the special Nordic section at Joux Plane, above Samoëns. There’s a regular shuttle bus service between Samoëns and the pistes at Joux Plane. Nordic winter sports area at the Col de Joux Plane, 1700 meters - 30 km of slopes, in the Haut Giffre Valley - 60 km of slopes.
