A ski resort listed by the French historic monuments agency, which is directly linked to one of the most beautiful ski areas in France. The Grand Massif ski area, the five resorts of the Grand Massif, Samoëns, Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon and Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval are linked by 265km of pistes. There are 75 lifts, three different types of Jam Park, (snow parks for freestyle skiing and boarding), and restaurants and bars galore offering all kinds of regional specialities. But downhill skiing is only part of what’s on offer. There are many other ways of enjoying a winter holiday while having just as much fun. Cross country skiing is worth a try. So too is “le skating”, which is similar, but more energetic. There are special Nordic pistes around all the resorts, and at the special Nordic section at Joux Plane, above Samoëns. There’s a regular shuttle bus service between Samoëns and the pistes at Joux Plane. Nordic winter sports area at the Col de Joux Plane, 1700 meters - 30 km of slopes, in the Haut Giffre Valley - 60 km of slopes.
